Heroes

Recently I heard a journalist pose a question about the existence of modern heroes. This reporter flashed images of Michael Vick, Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Ben Roethlisberger and the like. It was while showing her audience these images that she asked if heroes are a reality in today's society. This is a fair question but I would ask if they ever really existed. God created man and he sinned. We all are apart of this fallen creation so it is an unfair assesment to put anyone on a pedestal of heroic perfection. The men whose faults she paraded as non-heroic are men whose lives are in the spotlight so we see their faults when ours slide into the dark corners to be exposed to a smaller audience. Does this mean that they ought to be perfect because they are public figures? No. Now I ask for your understanding as I am not condoning sin in this post but bringing a realization that we ought not idolize anyone as perfect other than our LORD. He is the only truly perfect man to have ever lived. If ever there was a hero it was Him. Role models are out there but they are models who are fallen like you and me. I've grown up hearing the adage that, "the higher the pedestal, the harder the fall".

The true hero comes in a different form than the distant figures on our TV screens.

Christ is such an incredible hero to look towards who has never fallen from "the pedestal" He will never fail you even when you feel He has. He will never give you more than you can handle. He will never let you walk this world alone. He stepped down from His throne to show His love as a servant for all. His love stands far above how a human can love. Allow Him to be your hero in this world without a hero.
